Bernardino Helps Lead Warriors Past L.A. Valley in Road Contest

Monica Bernardino scored a goal and dished out an assist as El Camino College scored a 2-1 non-conference road victory over L.A. Valley Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors also got a goal from Izabel Gutierrez on Tuesday and goalkeeper Isabel Rojas recorded her third victory of the season as she made six saves, playing all 90 minutes.

Gutierrez opened the scoring off a pass from Bernardino to put ECC ahead 1-0. In the 35th minute, Bernardino got in on the scoring as she beat goalkeeper Becky Reyes to give the Warriors a two-goal lead at halftime.

The match remained that way until the 70th minute when L.A. Valley was awarded a penalty kick. Danielle Tilton drew the assignment and beat Rojas to cut the ECC lead in half.

But the Warriors defense hung on to record the victory as they did not allow another shot on target in 11 attempts in the second half.

The Warriors will return to South Coast Conference action on Friday afternoon with a road contest at Compton College. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
