Ramirez and Morales Provide Deciding Win against Rio Hondo
TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College recorded a 3-2 South Coast Conference victory over Rio Hondo on Friday morning at the ECC Sand Courts.
The match was close throughout and came down to the final points on the last two courts still in action. Four of the five games went three sets with Alison Ramirez and Natalya Morales scoring the decisive point on court four to secure the match for ECC.
Arden Templeton and Yasmine Itani put the Warriors up 1-0 with a 21-18, 21-19 victory on court five. A win for the Roadrunners on court three followed to tie things up at 1-1 until Taylor Puleri and Yasmin Watanabe pulled out their match on court one for a 2-1 advantage.
That left courts two and four to decide the outcome of the match with both having near identical scores. The Roadrunners tied the match after a violation gave Rio Hondo the deciding point in a 15-13 third set on court two.
But moments later, Ramirez and Morales pulled out their own third set victory by the identical score, 15-13, to lock up the win for ECC.
The victory snaps a four-match losing streak for the Warriors and moves them to 6-13 on the season and 2-6 in conference play.
The team will finish off the regular season on Friday, April 10 with matches against Cerritos and Long Beach City at LBCC.
