TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors men's soccer team scored early and often in a 4-2 win over Long Beach City College on Friday at the Warrior Soccer Field.
The Warriors moved to 10-1-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Warriors have spun off three straight multi-goal victories since their 1-0 loss to Compton to begin conference play.
The Warriors scored almost immediately to start the game. Diego Garcia played a one-two ball with Joshua Zendejas after the Vikings were lacksadaiscal with the ball inside their half that led to the Warriors turnover. After Garcia passed the ball to Zendejas, he fed it right back to Garcia who slotted it past the keeper to put the Warriors up 1-0.
The Warriors had the next four shots including a freekick that was saved on a shot from Charlie Cazares. Finally in the 24th minute, Andrew Valencia scored after heading a ball from Charlie Cazares to make it 2-0.
The Warriors continued to press and added their third in the 28th minute. Charlie Cazares sent a ball into the box that bounced off Ricardo Diaz. Franco De Luna was there to pounce on the ball to make it a 3-0 game.
The Vikings got a penalty kick in the 30th minute however Robert Baker saved the ball to his left to deny the Vikings PK goal attempt from Jose Mariscal.
After a wild first half that included five yellow cards, the Warriors led 3-0 heading into halftime.
The Vikings got one goal back in the 60th minute from Jose Mariscal to make it a 3-1 game.
The Vikings continued to put pressure on the Warriors defense until in the 82nd minute when the Warriors scored their fourth goal of the game. Steven Alvarenga was the recipient of a bad pass from the Viking defense and able to shoot it past the Vikings keeper to make it 4-1 and take back the momentum from the Vikings.
The Vikings got a late penalty kick consolation goal in the 89th minute . Jose Mariscal was able to make it a 4-2 game after blasting it down the middle after his first penalty was saved.
The Warriors are home for their next three games after being on the road for nearly a month. They host Pasadena City College on Tuesday, October 22nd. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
