TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors men's soccer completely dominated the day as they defeated the East Los Angeles Huskies 4-0 at home to secure their straight South Coast Conference Title.
The Warriors won their 8th Conference Championship overall and won it back-to-back fashion for the first time since winning four in a row from 1986-1989.
The Warriors held East Los Angeles shotless for the entire game for the first time in Mike Jacobson's career at the helm and at home at Warrior Soccer Field. The Warriors 32 shots for the game were their second highest output of shots this season behind the Glendale game (9/17) where they outshot Glendale 33-to-2
The Warriors took the lead in the 26th minute behind Joshua Zendejas. Sebastian Gomez played a ball down the side to Diego Garcia. Garcia cut the ball back in the middle of the box to Zendejas who shot it into the left corner of the net.
In the 41st minute, Chris Organista thought he had a goal scored but was judged to have handled the ball when he settled it leaving it to be waved off by the assistant sideline ref. On the ensuing freekick, the Warriors won the ball at midfield. Charlie Cazares headed the ball up to Issa El Assal who dribbled towards the Husky box. El Assal played a through ball perfectly to Alek Palomares who shot it past the keeper to make it a 2-0 game.
The Warriors took a 2-0 lead into halftime after outshooting East Los Angeles 18-0.
The Warriors added a third goal in the 63rd minute. Ivan Torres crossed a ball into the box where Marvin Gamez chested it back to the top of the box. Ricardo Diaz drove the free ball into the lower right corner for his second goal of the season.
The Warriors added a final goal to their tally in the 89th minute. Isaac Machuca played a through ball to Fernando Sandoval down the right side of the box. Sandoval sent in a cross to Erik Kerner who one touched the ball into the goal for his third of the season.
Robert Baker earned his sixth clean sheet of the season. Angel Martinez did an admirable job in goal for the Huskies after making 12 saves for the game.
The Warriors (14-1-3, 7-1-1 SCC) will be the top seed at next week's South Coast Conference tournament and have earned a bye from Friday's opening round of the South Coast Conference tournament. The Warriors will begin postseason play by hosting during the semifinals round next Tuesday at home and El Camino College will also host the conference championship and third place game on Thursday.
