Softball Named No. 1 Team in the State for First Time in Recorded History
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- The El Camino College softball team claimed the No. 1 spot in this week's 3CFCA State Rankings, it was announced Tuesday.
The Warriors are the No. 1 team in the poll for the first time in recorded history as they have opened the season with seven straight wins including four run-rule victories. The Warriors have been ranked in the top five of the state poll for the majority of the young season but vaulted fellow South Coast Conference team Cerritos for the top spot this week.
The Warriors have outscored opponents 61-22 through seven games this season and have a near three-to-one advantage in hits (74-26). The Warriors are hitting .392 as a team so far this season and have ratcheted that number up to .500 in two conference games.
In the circle, sophomore Lexi Ramirez has anchored the pitching staff with a 6-0 overall record and a 0.82 ERA in 34.1 innings pitched. She has 40 strikeouts and also recorded the first no-hitter from an ECC pitcher since 1990.
The Warriors will conclude the week with home games against Pasadena on Thursday and Mt. San Antonio on Friday.
