Kastigar Shines as Warriors Win Eighth Straight
TORRANCE, Calif. --- Freshman Savanna Kastigar was perfect at the plate and pitcher Lexi Ramirez logged another complete-game victory as No. 5 El Camino College blanked No. 19 Citrus 8-0 in six innings in a non-conference tilt Friday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.
Kastigar was outstanding at the plate as she went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two singles and four runs scored to go along with one RBI. It was her second four-hit game in the last five outings and third four-hit game of the season. She went 4-for-5 at Cypress on Saturday and 4-for-4 on Feb. 18 at L.A. Harbor. She extended her hitting streak to seven games with Friday's performance and is now batting a blistering .541 on the season.
Meanwhile, Ramirez was dominant in the circle again for the Warriors as she recorded her 22nd win of the season in the circle. She went six shutout innings and allowed just three hits with two walks while striking out four. It was her ninth shutout of the season and 21st complete game.
Cheyenne Navarro logged two hits with two runs scored and two RBIs while Emma Garcia was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jackie Ordonez walked three times and scored the other two runs for the Warriors.
The Warriors chipped their way up to their 16th run-rule victory of the year. Kastigar started things off quickly as she blasted a double off the top of the center-field wall in the first inning, coming just a few feet shy of hitting the first home run over the fence at the ECC Softball Field by any team this season.
Navarro followed with a single to put runners on the corners and, after Navarro stole second, Garcia smacked a single through the right side to score Kastigar. Navarro would also score as the right-fielder's throw to attempt to get Kastigar at the plate sailed to the backstop, giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
A two-run single by Navarro in the second and a run scoring hit by Garcia in the fourth put ECC up 6-0, which was plenty for Ramirez.
The sophomore right-hander allowed a leadoff double in the second and then retired the next 11 batters in a row before surrendering a two-out walk in the fifth. She would not allow another hit until the top of the sixth when the Owls got back-to-back one-out singles from Alivia Martinez and Jaelynn Eaves. But Ramirez got out of the frame with a double play as Isabel Tyrrell struck out looking and Anahi Pintado threw out Martinez at third trying to steal on the same pitch.
The Warriors would make it 7-0 on an RBI double by Kastigar in the bottom of the inning and then Kastigar came in to score on an error by the second baseman to end the game.
The Warriors will wrap up the week on Saturday afternoon when they host Santa Ana for a noon first pitch.
