Softball Drops Game One at San Diego Mesa
SAN DIEGO, Cali. -- No. 11 El Camino College suffered a 14-6 run-rule loss to No. 3 San Diego Mesa on Friday afternoon in game one of the 3C2A Softball SoCal Super Regional at the San Diego Mesa softball field.
The Warriors took a 4-0 lead but a disastrous fourth inning in which ECC gave up 10 runs to the Olympians proved to be the difference. The Warriors would score to more runs but the host Olympians scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to trigger the run-rule win.
The Warriors had just five hits but benefited from eight errors by the Olympians to put up six runs, four of them earned. Five different players recorded a hit for the Warriors with Melissa Terrazas' two-run home run in the fourth inning being the highlight for the Warriors offense.
The Olympians sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth and scored 10 runs on nine hits with Itzel Soto's grand slam putting the hosts up for good.
The Warriors will return to action on Saturday at noon for game two of the series looking to keep their season alive. The Warriors will be the designated home team and if they can win game two, they will force a winner-take-all game three at approximately 2 p.m.
