Samayoa Wins Third Conference Title, Named Co-Swimmer of the Year
MONTEREY PARK, Calif. --- Sophomore Iyanah Samayoa capped off the South Coast Conference championships with her third individual title of the meet and was named the conference's co-swimmer of the year for the second straight season.
Samayoa recorded her third straight repeat conference title on Saturday, this time in the 200 breastroke. She completed the race in 2:19.05, a half-second slower than last season but her margin of victory was four times greater than 2024 when she won by three seconds. On Saturday, Samayoa basically lapped the field as she won the event by 14.5 seconds to score her third repeat title of the weekend, giving her six conference titles in two seasons.
With her performance, Samayoa was named the SCC Co-Swimmer of the Year, sharing the honor with Paige Fast of Mount San Antonio.
In addition, Olivia Mozian recorded a dominant victory in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:30.47. She won the event by 19 seconds and recorded the third fastest time in ECC history.
In the overall standings, the Warriors' women finished third overall at the SCC Championships with 403 total points. Mt. SAC claimed the conference title with 976 points and Long Beach City finished second with 818.
On the men's side, the Warriors placed fourth overall with 407 points. Mt. SAC was first with 1,002 points with Long Beach City coming in second (720.5) and Cerritos finishing third (414.5).
Brayden Sanchez finished fourth in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:54.84 in Saturday's first event for the men. Samuel Orendain tied for third place in the 100 IM with a time of 58.63 and Ryan Song placed third in the 200 breastroke with a time of 2:11.84.
The 400 free relay team of Vincenzo Crivello, Sanchez, Orendain and Song wrapped up the day for ECC with a third-place finish, posting a time of 3:18.01.
