Women Finish Second, Men Third at Annual Pasadena Invitational

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. --- El Camino College had a solid showing at the annual Pasadena Invitational this past weekend at the East Los Angeles College Swim Stadium.

The women's team finished second in the field of 12 teams with a score of 594 points. Los Angeles Valley College took first place with 698.5 and Ventura finished third with 530.5 points.

On the men's side the Warriors placed third in the eight team field, posting 561 total points. Cypress placed first with 793 points and Diablo Valley College was second with 764.5.

The Warriors recorded a number of wins during the meet, led by Olivia Mozian on the women's side who swept the distance freestyle events.

She won the 500 free with a time of 5:18.85 and also scored a dominant victory in the 1650 free with a time of 18:22.07. Mozian finished more than 38 seconds better than teammate and runner-up Jasmine Eskander who touched the wall at 18:50.67.

On the men's side, Koichiro Ambe made history as he set a new school record in the 100 individual medley, winning the event with a time of 53.63. He broke the previous mark of 53.97 which was set by Fin Kircher in 2024.

Gio Wheeler also scored an individual win in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:59.53, the only swimmer to post a time under two minutes.

Alext Thornton won the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.98, edging out Ambe who placed second with a time of 1:58.84.

The Warriors' relay teams also posted wins as the women's 800 free relay team of Eskander, Monica Sanchez, Mozian and Francesca Pinillos posted a time of 8:27.49, edging out the team from L.A. Valley that placed second with a time of 8:27.74.

The men's 200 medley relay squad of Ambe, Caden Kendall, Wheeler and Alex Bugarin won the event with a time of 1:38.26.

The 400 free relay team of Bugarin, Ambe, Kendall and Wheeler placed first with a time of 3:17.74.

The Warriors will now take a week off before competing at the South Coast Conference Championships, which will be held at the ECC Aquatic Center from April 16-18.
