Taylor, Gonzales Win Regional Titles
NORWALK, Calif. --- Anthony Taylor and Sequoia Gonzales scored a pair of regional titles at Friday's 3C2A Southern California Regional Finals at Cerritos College.
Taylor took home the title in the 110 high hurdles while Gonzales claimed the win in the 5,000m final. A total of four athletes qualified for the 3C2A State Championships next week at Saddleback College.
Taylor scored yet another victory in the 110HH this season, posting a time of 14.34, qualifying for the state championships in the process. Taylor would also go on to qualify for state in the 400 hurdles as he placed fifth with a time of 53.93.
Gonzales edged out teammate Ami Jacobson in the 5,000m final as Gonzales finished with a personal best time of 17:44.98. Jacobson finished second with a time 17:50.67 with both athletes qualifying for the state championships in the event. They both also qualified for the 10,000 final at the state championships after Jacobson won the regional title last week at Cerritos with Gonzales placing second.
Alexis Pitts placed fifth in the 100m with a time of 12.49 to also qualify for next week's state championships.
Lotanna Muonagor tied for eighth overall in the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, ¾ inches to make him a first alternate for the event at next week's championships.
The 3C2A State Championships will take place at Saddleback College on May 17-18. Gonzales and Jacobson will be the first Warriors to compete as the 10,000m final will take place on Friday with the remainder of the events happening on Saturday.
