LONG BEACH, Calif. --- Tilliana Wakefield-Carl claimed the 2025 South Coast Conference title in the pole vault on Tuesday afternoon at day one of the SCC Championships held at Veterans Memorial Stadium at Long Beach City College.

Wakefield-Carl became the first Warriors women's pole vaulter to win the event since 2012 when Katrina Wilbanks capped off a three-year run of ECC women reigning at the top of the event. Kara Kalmar won the event in 2010 and 2011.

On Tuesday, Wakefield-Carl posted a mark of 3.55 meters (11 feet, 7.75 inches) to clear Mt. SAC's Sofia Di Marco (3.40m) and Samantha Diener (3.25m). It was Wakefield-Carl's second highest mark this season, trailing only her ECC record-setting mark of 3.68m (12 feet, 0.75 inches) she set at the Moorpark Invitational on April 4. It was also her fifth victory in the event this season.

The majority of day one consisted of preliminaries for the running events but a number of finals were also completed on Tuesday. Some other Warriors highlights included:

  • Aaron Cohen finished third in the men's 10,000 meters, clocking a time of 32:58.63, 27 seconds behind winner Joel Fischer (32:31.78) of Mt. SAC. Robert Guerrero of Cerritos placed second (32:39.69).
  • Arianna Hurtado placed fifth in the women's 10,000 meters with a time of 41:19.06.
  • Griffin Esperon placed sixth in the men's pole vault with a mark of 4.25m (13 feet, 11.25 inches).
  • Curtis Williams finished seventh in the long jump with a distance of 6.29m (20 feet, 7.75 inches).
  • Jasmin Williams was eighth in the women's long jump with a mark of 4.70m (15 feet, 5 inches).

The remaining individual conference champions and team champs will be crowned on Saturday with the field events set to kick things off at 11:30 a.m. while the running events are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
