Perez Finishes Second in Decathlon at SoCal Finals

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- Sophomore Gunner Perez finished second in the decathlon at the 3C2A Southern California Finals on Wednesday hosted by Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Perez finished with a score of 6,383, eclipsing his own performance in the event last year when he scored 5,989. He's only the second Warriors athlete to ever cross the 6,000-point mark in the decathlon, joining ECC record-holder Steve Nuchols who posted a score of 6,719 in 1985.

Perez won the 400m (49.51) and placed second in the 110m high hurdles (15.31) to go along with a third-place finish in the 1500m (4:44.72).

He also added top-five finishes in the long jump and the high jump.

Taiyo Ishiguro of Mt. San Antonio took home first place in the event with 6,668 points.

Perez will now make his way to the 3C2A State Championships in the event which take place from May 15-16 at Mt. SAC.
