Wakefield-Carl Breaks Own Pole Vault Record at Cal State L.A. Invite
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- For the second time in as many years, Tilliana Wakefield-Carl set a new El Camino College Track and Field benchmark in the pole vault as she broke her own record on Thursday at the Cal State L.A. Twilight Open.
Wakefield-Carl set a new standard at ECC in the pole vault with a mark of 3.70 meters (12 feet, 1.50 inches), breaking the record she set on April 4, 2025 at the Moorpark Open when she cleared 3.68m (12 feet, 0.75 inches).
Last year, she broke the old ECC record set by Katrina Wilbanks (3.66m; 12 feet) in 2012 and joined Wilbanks as the only women in ECC history to clear 12 feet in the event.
On Thursday, Wakefield-Carl attempted the 3.70 mark after completing four previous marks including 3.55 on her first attempt. Wakefield-Carl missed the 3.70 height on her first attempt but cleared the bar on her second attempt to set the new record.
She attempted three more tries at 3.85m but came up short. In addition to setting a new ECC standard, Wakefield-Carl also won the event as the only community college competitor in the event. The other three competitors were from four-year universities.
Thursday also marked Wakefield-Carl's fourth win of the season in the pole vault. She has now recorded nine total victories in her career.
Along with Wakefield-Carl's showing, the Warriors also had James Pinner finish second in the men's pole vault as he cleared 4.30m (14 feet, 1.25 inches). He was one of three Warriors competing in the event with Joshua Radeke tying for fourth place with a mark of 3.55m (11 feet, 7.75 inches) and Gunner Perez placing sixth with a height of 3.40m (11 feet, 1.75 inches).
