Gore, Winyaworapon Drop Opening Matches at State Championships

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. --- Anya Gore and Montila Winyaworapon dropped their opening matches on day one of the 3C2A Badminton Individual and Doubles State Championships on Friday at City College of San Francisco.

Gore, who entered the weekend as the No. 3 seed from the South in the individuals bracket, dropped her opening match against Khushi Kaur of Fresno City College in three sets (21-15, 19-21, 21-11).

With the loss, Gore dropped into the consolation bracket where she would advance to the semifinals for the consolation championship. She defeated Yoon Noe of Compton College (21-17, 21-9) and Kayla Leyva of FCC (21-16, 21-15). She will face Jamie Min of De Anza College on Saturday at 11 a.m.

In the doubles bracket, Gore and Winyaworapon entered as the No. 4 seed from the South but were defeated by Vicky Guan and Jacqueline Leong of City College of San Francisco (21-11, 21-14), dropping the Warriors' duo into the consolation bracket.

In their first match of the consolation bracket, Gore and Winyaworapon defeated Noe and Michelle Oo of Compton (21-18, 21-17) to advance to the consolation semifinals. They will face Jessica Ho and Maria Yau Zhang on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
