Hudson, Arrache Headline All-Conference Selections
TORRANCE, Calif. --- Freshman Sophia Hudson and head coach Anton Arrache highlighted El Camino College's selections to the 2024 All-South Coast Conference Team, it was announced Tuesday.
Hudson was named the South Coast Conference, South Division Defensive Player of the Year, headlining a list of seven total players named to the All-SCC South Division Team.
In addition to the players, Warriors head coach Anton Arrache was named the 2024 SCC South Coach of the Year after leading the Warriors to a 6-2-1 record in SCC play and a third-place finish in the SCC Tournament.
Hudson played and started in all 20 matches for the Warriors this season, anchoring the back line for ECC. She was part of a defense that recorded five shutouts in 20 matches. The defense also allowed 1.43 goals per game this season. Along with her defensive prowess, Hudson also scored four goals and had two assists on the year.
In his second season at the helm, Arrache led the Warriors to a 9-7-5 overall record in addition to the conference performance this season. The team scored 40 goals this season with five players recording double-digit points during the year.
The Warriors also had six other players named to the All-SCC Team with three selections to the first team (Julia Camacho, Ashley Ruiz, Catherine Curwood-Wagner) and three to the second team (Jordan Stemberga, Sarahi Sanchez, Ruby Colcol).
Curwood-Wagner led the Warriors with eight goals this season including three game-winning goals. She also added two assists on the year with her 18 points ranking her second on the team.
Camacho led the Warriors in scoring with 19 points as she scored six goals while dishing out a team-high seven assists. She scored two game-winning goals and played in 19 matches this year.
Ruiz played and started in all 20 matches for the Warriors this year and was a steady presence in the midfield and the back line. She dished out three assists on the year with one goal.
Stemberga had an excellent freshman campaign for the Warriors in net, making 18 starts while playing in 19 of the team's 20 matches this year. She posted a 7-6-5 overall record in net and posted three solo shutouts while participating in five of the team's shutouts this year.
Sanchez was second on the team with seven goals scored during the regular season and third in scoring with 18 points. Sanchez also tied for second on the team with two game-winning goals while playing and starting in all 20 matches this year.
Colcol logged her second straight All-SCC selection after netting a first-team honor as a freshman. In 2024, Colcol played in all 20 matches for the Warriors and was fourth on the team with five goals to go along with one assist on the year.
The Warriors will head to L.A. Pierce on Wednesday night for the first round of the 3C2A Southern California Women's Soccer Regionals. It will mark the fourth straight season the Warriors have reached the postseason after being absent from the playoffs since 2010.
