Waters, Hazell Share Top Honors as All-Conference Teams Announced

Sophomore Aiko Waters and El Camino College head coach Liz Hazell both received top honors as the All-South Coast Conference teams were announced Friday.

Waters was named the Co-Most Valuable Player along with Josanna Vazquez of Long Beach City. Waters led the conference in kills (290) and kills per set (3.63). She ranked 19th overall in the state in kills per set and 22nd in total kills. She also led the team with 12 double-doubles on the season while playing in all 23 matches for ECC. She also led the team with 255 digs.

Hazell earned Co-Head Coach of the Year honors in her first season at the helm at ECC. She notched her first head coaching victory against Orange Coast in the season opener. She went on to lead the Warriors to their eighth consecutive conference title and a 19-4 overall record.

The Warriors also received seven selections to the All-South Coast Conference Team with three on the first team and four on the second team. Jaylin Motley, Renee Brydon and Kiana Takahashi were selected to the first team while Glorious Owens, Jerephina Leilua, Sarah Dyer and Keily Morimoto earned second-team honors.

Motley was second on the team with 271 kills and a 3.39 kills per set average. She played all 23 matches and 80 sets on the year and added 153 digs and 25 aces during the regular year.

Brydon was third on the team with 154 kills but led the Warriors in attacking percentage, hitting at a .374 clip on the season. She also led the Warriors with 64 blocks (nine solo)

Takahashi was the Warriors primary libero during the year and tallied 172 digs with a 3.13 digs per set average.

Owens finished second on the team with 51 blocks including seven solo blocks. She played in 20 of the team's 23 matches and recorded 65 kills and 22 digs.

Leilua played in 17 matches and finished fourth on the team with 113 kills and a 1.82 kills per set average. She also posted 27 blocks and 44 digs on the year.

Dyer and Morimoto were the primary distributors for the Warriors during the regular season. Dyer led the way with 474 assists with Morimoto dishing out 345 helpers. Dyer averaged 5.85 assists per set while Morimoto averaged 4.26 assists per set. Morimoto posted 102 digs on the year while Dyer recorded 100.
