Yanez, Dugmore Lead Warriors at Southern California Preview

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. --- El Camino College competed at the Southern California Preview hosted by Chaffey College on its campus on Friday.

It was a midseason look at the Chaffey course that will host the 3C2A Southern California Regionals this year and the Warriors had a solid showing on both sides.

For the men, the Warriors finished seventh overall in a field of 27 total teams and seven incomplete squads. With the result, the Warriors remain ranked No. 9 in the SoCal rankings.

Freshman Angel Yanez used a late surge to lead all ECC runners and placed 22nd overall in a monstrous field of 330 runners. In the closing mile, Yanez pulled even with teammates Aaron Cohen and Alan Canales and eventually surpassed them to cross the line in 22:09.2.

Cohen (22:09.2) and Canales (22:11.6) placed 25th and 26th respectively with sophomore Ty McCormick (60th, 23:03.2) and Bradley Barbosa (73rd race, 76th overall 23:25.4) and Gavin Borges (94th race, 112th overall, 24:01.6)  rounding out the scoring for ECC, which finished with 206 points. Aiden Nakai (99th, 112th overall 24:08.3) and Juan Avellana (105th race, 129th overall, 24:18.3) also ran in the first men's race while Don York (220th, 26:50.5), Isaac Munoz (229th, 27:07.5), and Gabriel Amezcua (251st, 28:07.1) ran in the overflow race.

On the women's side, the Warriors 13th overall in a field that including 21 full squads and 14 other incomplete teams. The result ranks the Warriors at No. 15 in the SoCal rankings.

Sophomore Elaine Dugmore paced the Warriors with a 58th place finish, crossing the line in 23:12.5. Arianna Hurtado was right behind her teammate in 59th place with a time of 23:13.2. Emily Gutierrez (71st, 23:40.4), Ayla Barbosa (78th, 23:53.7) and Denise Delgado (102nd, 25:09.4) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors on Friday.

The team will have a week off before returning to action on Oct. 18 at the Mt. SAC Invitational.
