Men Place Third, Women Fifth at South Coast Conference Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- The El Camino College cross country team competed at the South Coast Conference championships on Friday at Heartwell Park.

On the men's side, the Warriors placed third in the eight-team field behind only state No. 1 Mt. San Antonio and No. 4 Cerritos.

Aaron Cohen and Alan Canales paced the team as Cohen finished in seventh with a time of 21:00.1 with Alan Canales placing ninth with a time of 21:00.6. Cohen's performance earned him All-South Coast Conference First Team honors while Canales made the All-South Coast Conference Second Team.

Freshman Aiden Nakai placed 30th in 22:08.9; sophomore Ty McCormick 31st in 22:09.9, and freshman Bradley Barbosa 42nd in 22:33.4. Following these five scorers were freshman Juan Avellana in 49th (22:43.8), freshman Gavin Borges in 53rd (22:57.8), freshman Don York in 79th (24:51.0), and freshman Isaac Munoz in 88th (25:52.3).

For the women, the Warriors placed fifth overall with Elaine Dugmore leading the way, placing 18th with a time of 20:57.8. Arianna Hurtado finished in 19th at 20:59.9. Freshman Ayla Barbosa was 25th in 21:29.3, freshman Emily Gutierrez 28th in 43.1, and freshman Denise Delgado 29th in 21:50.9.

With the finishes, the Warriors' men and women each qualified for the 3C2A Southern California Championships on Nov. 8 at Chaffey College.
