Warriors Swept by Santa Barbara

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College suffered a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 27-25) Western State Conference loss to Santa Barbara on Friday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

Owen Loebs led the Warriors with 12 kills on 33 swings with Garrett Gronbach adding 11 kills in 27 attempts in the loss. Edan Musick (15) and Jayson Sahagun (12) combined for 27 of the team's 32 assists and Noah Rivera finished the night with six blocks.

Mykolas Petraitis led the Vaqueros with 14 kills and Keegan Hubbard added 10 with Rocky Brazier dishing out 34 assists in the win.

The first set was tight with the teams trading the lead four times. There were also six ties in the set but the Vaqueros outhit the Warriors .243 to .147 and scored six of the last eight points to claim the frame.

The second set belonged to Santa Barbara as they never trailed and Hubbard recorded four of his kills in the frame. The Vaqueros never trailed despite hitting just .094 in the frame.

In the third, the Warriors trailed late but mounted a rally off Luke Chambers' serve, scoring five straight points to turn a three-point deficit into a 23-22 lead. But the Vaqueros scored two straight to get their first match point of the night. The Warriors would fight off three match points but consecutive kills from Nick Schultz and Hubbard put an end to the night.

Schultz finished with seven kills in the match with four of them coming in the third set.

The Warriors will return to action on Wednesday, March 5 with a road game at Moorpark. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
