Warriors Shut Out Eagles In Series Opener

TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors baseball team shutout the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles 7-0 in the series opener on Tuesday, March 31st at Warrior Field.

The Warriors (25-4) have won eight games in a row, their longest winning streak this season. 

Cameron O'neil tossed six shutout innings as he picked up his eighth win of the season. Matthew Krause picked up the save after tossing the final three innings.

Gil Solis and Slater Nunez both had bases clearing triples to elad the offense. Solis went 2-for-4 at the dish 1 run and 4 RBIs.

The Warriors scored three runs in the third inning. Aden Laureano led the inning off with a base hit, Daniel Craig walked, and Gil Solis reached after a sac bunt and the pitcher threw the ball wide pulling the first basemen off the bag. Slater Nunez hit a drive to center field that the Eagles center fielder attempted to make a diving catch on but missed. Nunez was thrown out at the plate trying to stretch it to an inside the park home run.

The Warriors added three more in the fourth inning. They loaded the base with two outs after Dane Rhodes had an infield single. Nolan Fox reached on a fielder's choice after Rhodes beat the throw attempting to get him out at second base. Daniel Craig was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Gil Solis doubled down the left field line to make it 6-0.

The Warriors added a final insurance run in the eighth inning. Rhodes and Fox led the inning off with a walk. A double play wiped out the trail runner but Rhodes advanced to third base. Gil Solis singled through the left side to bring in the Warriors final run to make it a 7-0 game.

The series shifts to San Jacinto on Thursday before returning home on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
