TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors baseball team won their 10th game in a row after completing the series sweep over Mt. San Jacinto in a 2-0 win on Friday afternoon at Warrior Field.
The Warriors improved to 27-4 for the season and continued their longest win streak of the season so far.
It was a pitchers duel between Anthony Camerena and Dayton Thompson of the Eagles as both pitchers traded zeros for the first six innings. Camerena earned his sixth win of the season after he nearly went the distance after tossing 8.2 innings and allowing just four hits, two walks, and struck out four batters. Dayton Thompson went seven innings for the Eagles and allowed two unearned runs on three hits, four walks, and struck out four batters.
The Warriors finally broke the tie in the bottom of the seventh. Dylan Garcia led the inning off with a hit through the left side and Johnny Munoz worked a walk. Nolan Fox beat out a potential inning ending double play to put runners on the corners with two outs. Gil Solis hit a hard grounder to the Eagles second basemen and they coudn't get the ball out of the glove cleanly on an attempt to get the runner out at second to score the first run of the game. Slater Nunez hit a ball off the wall in right center to score Nolan Fox from second but Solis was thrown out trying to score from first to end the inning with the Warriors up 2-0.
The Eagles made things interesting in the final frame after they got two men on base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth after a single and a walk. Gavin Sanchez came in to pitch in relief of Camarena and got the final out to earn his second save of the season and preserve the series sweep for the Warriors.
The Warriors return to conference play next week with a series against the Cerritos Falcons. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Kincaid Field before the Warriors return home on Thursday to Warrior Field.
