Warriors Winning Streak Snapped by Cerritos
TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College had its 11-game winning streak snapped on Thursday afternoon with a 5-3 South Coast Conference loss to Cerritos at Warrior Field.
It was the team's first loss since March 10 against L.A. Harbor as the visiting Falcons scratched off two runs in the ninth to take the victory on Thursday.
The game featured two pitchers at the top of their game as Adrian Pineda went 6 and 2/3 innings and allowed just two runs on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts en route to a no-decision.
Nolan Patterson picked up the win for Cerritos as he went eight innings and allowed three runs on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Neither team was able to get on the board until the sixth inning when the Falcons took a 1-0 lead on a run-scoring double-play ball.
But the Warriors answered in their half of the sixth with two runs to take the lead.
After tying it in the seventh, the Falcons took a 3-2 lead in the eighth off against reliever Gavin Sanchez but Nathan Rivera hit a solo home run to lead off the Warriors' eighth to tie things up again.
In the ninth, Warriors closer Slater Nunez got the first two outs of the frame on strikeouts but the Falcons followed that up with three straight hits including a two-run pinch-hit single by Michael Patterson to take a 5-3 lead.
The Warriors were unable to mount one last comeback as they were retired in order in their half of the ninth to drop just their third conference game this season.
The teams will meet up for the rubber match of the series on Friday afternoon at Kincaid Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
