Warriors Win Series Opener over Pasadena City College
TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors baseball team defeated Pasadena City College 10-4 in the first game of a three game set on Tuesday at Warrior Field.
The Warriors improved to 32-6 overall and 18-4 in South Coast Conference play. The Warriors need one more win to guarantee a share of the conference title with Mt. Sac and need to sweep to win the conference title outright. The Warriors won the series over Mt. Sac and would earn the higher seed in next week's Southern California playoffs in the result of a tie.
Cameron O'Neil picked up his 11th win of the season after going 6.2 innings. He allowed two runs on nine hits, two walks, and struck out two.
Johnny Munoz went 4-for-4 at the dish with two runs and two RBIs. Kai Nagashima went 3-for-4 along with two runs and two RBIs as well. Gil Solis and Slater Nunez also had two hits as the Warriors pounded out 13 hits for the game.
The Warriors had to come from behind after PCC put up one run in the first inning.
The Warriors took the lead for good in the second inning. Gil Solis and Johnny Munoz led the inning off with base hits and both advanced 90 feet after a sac bunt from Dane RHodes. Kai Nagashima hit a single to shallow right field to bring both runners in to make it a 2-1 game.
The Warriors added three more in the fourth inning. Johnny Munoz and Kai Nagashime were on 3rd and 2nd with two outs after a base hit and a double. Nathan Rivera singled up the middle to bring in both runs and Slater Nunez followed Rivera with a double deflected off the third baseman's glove to score Rivera and make it a 5-1 game.
The Warriors added four in the sixth inning. They loaded the bases to start the inning off two hits from Nagashima and Nolan Fox. Nathan Rivera was hit by a pitch to load the bases. They scored the first run on a wild pitch before Slater Nunez walked to reload the bases. Caden Lewis brought another run in on a fielder's choice. The Warriors added their final run of the inning on a wild pitch to make it a 9-1 game.
The Lancers added one run in each of the final three innings while the Warriors added their final run in the 8th inning after Johnny Munoz doubled in a run to make it a 10-3 game.
The series shifts to Pasadena on Thursday with first pitch at 2:00 p.m. The final game of the series will take place on Friday, April 24th at Warrior Field at 2:00 p.m.
