COSTA MESA, Calif. --- El Camino College split four matches at the Golden West Tournament hosted by Golden West College and Orange Coast College this past weekend.
The Warriors played all their matches at OCC and dropped the first match of each day before winning the second on both Friday and Saturday.
FRIDAY
SADDLEBACK 12, WARRIORS 8
The Warriors got off to a rough start as they were outscored 7-2 in the first half and they never recovered. Max Hale scored four times to lead the Warriors in the loss.
WARRIORS 24, SOUTHWESTERN 18
The first day of the tournament ended with a flurry of goals with the Warriors coming out on top of the Jaguars for the second time this season. The Warriors scored 10 times in the opening period and added seven more in the second quarter to take an eight-goal lead into the half which they never relinquished.
Zane Johnson scored five times to lead the offense with Marc Bugarin adding four and Heitor Trefilio scoring three goals in the win.
SATURDAY
RIVERSIDE 13, WARRIORS 12 (3OT)
It took sudden death overtime to decide the first match of the day on Saturday against the Tigers. The Warriors trailed by two going into the fourth but the defense blanked the Tigers while Scott Fujiwara and Bugarin pulled the Warriors even with a goal apiece in the period to send things to overtime.
In the first overtime, Max Hale found the back of the net with 16 seconds left to pull ECC even and force a second overtime.
Hale would put the Warriors up in the second OT but Riverside came up with their own late heroics as Lennon Franklin scored with 23 seconds left to send the match into sudden-death overtime.
In the third extra period, Colby Martin scored for the Tigers to secure the victory.
Hale finished with four goals to lead the Warriors and Vios Lopez made 11 saves in the cage.
WARRIORS 15, PALOMAR 11
The Warriors outscored the Comets 5-2 in the third period to turn a two-goal halftime lead into a more comfortable five-goal advantage in the final period and they held on to secure the win. Bugarin led the way with four goals with Trefilio and Hale adding three apiece.
